T20 World Cup: Another big upset, England defeated by Ireland
In another major upset in the T20 World Cup, Ireland beat England under the Duckworth-Lewis method.
In the Super 12 stage match of the T20 World Cup played in Melbourne, Australia, rain made England lose the match they won.
In the Super 12 stage match, England won the toss and decided to field against Ireland. The match was delayed due to rain before the start. After scoring runs, clouds started pouring in Melbourne once again.
Later the match resumed when the rain stopped and Ireland scored 157 runs in 19.2 overs before the whole team returned to the pavilion.
Irish captain Andy Balburnie played a brilliant innings of 62 runs by showing responsible batting, while other batsmen included Paul Sterling 14, Lorcan Tucker 34, Curtis Kaempfer 13, Mark Adair 4, Barry McCarthy 3, Fionn Hand one while Harry Tector And George Dockrell scored no runs.
For England, fast bowler Mark Wood and spinner Liam Livingston took 3, 3 while Sam Curran took 2 and Ben Stokes got one.
Chasing the target of 158 runs, the English team got off to a very disappointing start, with captain Jos Buttler getting zero while Alex Hales returned to the pavilion after scoring just 7 runs.
Ben Stokes 6, Harry Brock 18 runs were outstanding, David Mullan played a responsible innings of 35 runs but he could not give the team victory.
In the closing moments of the match, all-rounder Moeen Ali played an aggressive innings of 24 runs off 12 balls, but the match was stopped due to rain. By the time of rain, the English team was 5 runs away from the total score, which caused the defeat.
On behalf of the Irish bowlers, Josh Little took 2 wickets while Barry McCarthy, Gareth Delaney and George Dockrell took one wicket each.
